Lisa M. Huelskamp, LPC, CWC, NCC, PhD in STEM

Lisa (she/her/hers) is a Clinical Research Assistant in Ohio State College of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health and runs her private practice Red Apple Counseling and Consultation, LLC. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Certified Wellness Counselor (CWC), and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She earned her Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling - a program built on a social justice and multicultural framework - along with a PhD in STEM education, Masters of Arts in Gifted Education, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Science Education, all from The Ohio State University.

Group work has been her passion for decades having enjoyed facilitating executive functioning working groups; LGTBQ+ support groups; diabetes support groups; brain injury support groups; self-awareness and self-care groups; eco-wellness groups; and groups to support neurodiversity, twice-exceptionality, and multipotentiality.

Supported by 32 years as an educator in k-12 an university settings, Lisa is able to incorporate user-friendly and approachable ‘bite size’ strategies to fit individual learning styles and needs.

She welcomes and validates individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and interests and values a flexible worldview with multicultural perspectives and believes everyone deserves to feel seen, safe, and healthy.

Lisa is a current and active member of American Counselors Association (ACA and ACAO), American College Counseling Association (ACCA and OCCA), Association of Humanistic Counseling (AHC), American Association of Suicidology (AAS), Association for Specialists in Group Work (ASGW and OASGW), Carolinas Group Psychotherapy Society (CGPS), National and Ohio Career Development Association (NCDA and OCDA), Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation (OSPF), Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG), Climate Psychology Alliance North America (CPA-NA), Association for Pet Loss & Bereavement (APLB), and ACA Counselors for Social Justice.

When not working with clients or conducting research at OSU, Lisa spends time as a professional musician, being in nature, traveling with her husband, gardening, baking, and volunteering for Great Dane and cat rescues.
